Become a Volunteer at the American Clock & Watch Museum

Volunteers at the American Clock & Watch Museum, Inc. make a valuable contribution to the success of the museum while helping to preserve the rich clockmaking heritage of our state.  As a volunteer at our facility you do not need any previous museum experience or knowledge of clocks and watches.  Opportunities for volunteers are available in many facets of the museum and we invite you to contact us.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Volunteer Opportunities
Administration - Volunteers are needed to make copies, do miscellaneous filing, and help with stuffing envelopes for special event invitations and annual fund mailings.
Event Ambassadors -  ACWM seeks volunteer ambassadors to assist at the museum’s on-site special events and/or off-site festivals and community activities. During the times that the museum hosts special events, volunteers are needed to help with the set-up of chairs and tables, greeting museum guests as they arrive, orienting museum guests to the galleries and facilities, and answering museum guests’ questions. At off-site events, volunteers are needed to greet visitors at the museum's booth at trade shows and local events, help with children's activities, welcoming guests during onsite events, and hanging posters around town to promote upcoming events. Examples of these events include the Rockwell Park Summer festival, the Mum Festival and Parade, the museum’s annual Wine, Women & Watches event, and a variety of museum-led workshops and educational programs.

Facility and Grounds Maintenance- ACWM seeks volunteers to help maintain the landscaping around the museum's properties, including weeding and watering as needed. (Note: this position does not include maintaining our sundial garden, which is maintained thanks to the support of the Bristol Garden Club.)  Volunteer should enjoy spending time outdoors and have a basic knowledge of plants and flowers.

Gallery Attendants- Volunteers are needed to help with special open house days. Attendants will help staff the galleries to answer general questions of the visitors and guide them to additional gallery spaces.
Tour Guides-  ACWM seeks volunteers to lead and/or assist with tour groups. Tour guides are expected to attend docent training sessions and shadow tours given by seasoned guides and/or staff in preparation to give guided tours through the exhibits and share the history of the American clock and watch industry with its visitors.  Tours can last between 45 min to 1-1/2 hours depending on the size and interest of the group.  The museum conducts regular tours for the general public as well as special tours for groups that make reservations in advance.  We have opportunities for those interested in adult, senior, and/or school group tours and programs.
